One person hospitalised following Waterloo townhouse fire (update)

Twenty-one firefighters fought the fire, while a 60-year-old Waterloo man sustained serious injuries

A 60-year-old man was taken to hospital following a Waterloo townhouse fire on Saturday.

Around 11:40 a.m., emergency services were called to the area of Bluevale Street North and Mayfield Avenue for reports of a house "fully engulfed in fire."

One unit of the multi-unit residential building was on fire, creating large plumes of black smoke visible from the expressway.

Twenty-one firefighters extinguished the blaze, while Waterloo Regional Police report the house was significantly damaged. 

That 60-year-old Waterloo man was transported to hospital with serious injuries. 

The cause of the fire is still under investigation - while anyone with information that could assist police is encouraged to contact them or Crime Stoppers.
