Regional police have charged a 52-year-old Kitchener man with several firearm related offences following a shooting incident that occurred in that city on Saturday morning.
Responding to a residence the area of Linden Avenue around 11:30 a.m. for reports of shots fired, regional police said they located a 38-year-old male suffering from a gunshot wound, sustaining serious injuries. That man was transported to an out-of-region hospital.
As police deployed their Emergency Response Team, nearby residents were asked to remain indoors as a spokesperson with the service noted a concern for public safety. Members of the public were also asked to avoid the area.
Nearly two hours later, police reported they had cleared the residence, taking "several people" into custody.
A 52-year-old Kitchener man has since been arrested in connection to the ongoing police investigation, facing charges of aggravated assault, assault with a weapon, weapons dangerous and more.
Police believe that shooting was a targeted incident.
The investigation is still ongoing, as police note there will be a continued, increased police presence in the Linden Avenue area throughout the day. Anyone with information is asked to contact police or Crime Stoppers.
