Kitchener man facing impaired charge following crash on 401

The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Highway Safety Division (HSD) Cambridge Detachment has charged a man with impaired driving resulting from a motor vehicle collision on Highway 401 in Puslinch Township.

On June 2, 2019 at approximately 5:40 a.m. officers from the Cambridge OPP received several traffic complaints regarding a possible impaired driver travelling westbound on Highway 401 in Puslinch Township, Ontario. Complaints indicated that the motor vehicle was being driven at inconsistent speeds and weaving across all three lanes of traffic.

While on route to intercept this motor vehicle, officers received reports that the vehicle was now involved in a single-vehicle collision on the Highway 401 off ramp to Highway 6 South, Puslinch Township. 

Officers arrived on the scene of the collision where they located an uninjured male driver in the vehicle. As a result of the investigation Garvin CHARLES, a 32-year-old from Kitchener, Ontario has been charged with Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration 80 plus and Operation while impaired – alcohol. CHARLES is scheduled to appear on July 9, 2019 in Guelph Court to answer to the charges.

The OPP is reminding drivers that no amount of alcohol or drugs in your system is safe when driving.  If you suspect that someone is driving or about to drive impaired, call 9-1-1 and report it.
