Horse and buggy crash in Woolwich kills one, critically injures another

A 76-year-old man is dead, and a 79-year-old woman was critically injured after a crash in Woolwich Township.

It happened on Line 86, near Sideroad 16 just before 9:00 p.m. Sunday, involving a horse and buggy and a Honda Civic.

Regional police said a man and woman were both ejected from the horse and buggy, and were sent to hospital. The man and woman were from Waterloo Region.

Police said the driver and passenger in the Honda Civic were not hurt. The driver was identified as a 20-year-old man.

Police said the horse was recovered, and was not injured.

Police continue to investigate, and are appealing for any witnesses. Charges are pending.
