Guelph man facing additional charges as a result of human trafficking investigation

In January 2021, the joint Waterloo-Guelph Human Trafficking team initiated an investigation into alleged human trafficking in Guelph.

At the time, a 46-year-old Guelph male was charged with Unlawfully Possess Identity Documents, Uttering Threats, and Receiving Material Benefits.

Through further investigation and analysis of the male’s cell phone, police have charged the male with additional offences, including Trafficking in Persons, Withhold Documents, and Material Benefit – Trafficking.  These charges are part of the original investigation.

Anyone with information relating to this incident, or anyone with information concerning potential human trafficking victims, are encouraged to contact the joint Waterloo-Guelph Human Trafficking team at intel.ht@wrps.on.ca or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.

In January 2021, Waterloo Regional Police Service and Guelph Police Service’s joint Human Trafficking Unit became involved in an investigation in the City of Guelph.  This investigation resulted in a 46-year-old Guelph male being charged with Unlawfully Possess Identity Documents, Uttering Threats, and Receiving Material Benefits. 

The victim has now been provided with a safety plan and community resources due to the embedded Human Trafficking Crisis Intervention counsellor from Victim Services.
