Officers from Waterloo Regional Police Service's Direct Action Response Team (DART) have arrested the driver of a vehicle after it allegedly fled from a traffic stop in Waterloo.

On Jan. 29, at 2 a.m., police attempted to stop the driver of a black Audi near King Street North and Noecker Street. The vehicle fled the area at a high rate of speed, and a pursuit was not initiated due to public safety concerns.

A short time later, the now unoccupied Audi was located on Weber Street. The driver was located nearby and placed under arrest.

As a result of the investigation, the driver, a 24-year-old Toronto man has been charged with dangerous driving, impaired operation, and flight from police.

The accused's driving license was suspended for 90 days and his vehicle was impounded for seven days.
