On Monday June 17, 2019, at approximately 4:25 p.m. Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a report from a concerned motorist who was following a possible impaired driver on Wellington Road 34 in Puslinch Township. The witness described the suspect vehicle as a red pick-up truck that was being operated erratically, struck a curb and nearly collided with a tree.

Police located the vehicle after it pulled into a private driveway and while speaking with the driver, determined that their ability to operate a motor vehicle was impaired by alcohol. They were placed under arrest and transported to a local OPP Operation Centre for further testing.

As a result of the investigation, Antonio ALVES, 62-years-old of Kitchener has been charged with Impaired Operation and 80 Plus (mgs of alcohol in 100mL of blood) contrary to the Criminal Code.

A 90-day Administrative Driver's Licence Suspension (A.D.L.S.) and 7-day Vehicle Impoundment were initiated as per statute. The accused is scheduled to appear in Guelph Criminal Court on July 23, 2019 to answer to the charges.

If you suspect someone is driving while their ability to operate a motor vehicle is impaired by drugs or alcohol, please call 911 immediately.
