University of Waterloo quarterback Tre Ford is hoping to find a home with the CFL's Edmonton Elks.

The reigning Hec Crighton Trophy winner went eighth overall in the first round of the 2022 draft on Tuesday evening.

It was Edmonton's second pick in the first round. The Elks made a trade with Hamilton on Monday for the eighth overall pick.

Ford was ranked fourth in the final draft rankings.

He was named the most valuable player in U SPORTS football back in December. Ford finished in the top 10 of both passing and rushing in the country.

Ford's brother Tyrell, a defensive back — who also played for the University of Waterloo, was a second round selection (13th overall) of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.

A pair of Laurier Golden Hawks were drafted back-to-back in the fourth round. Braydon Noll was taken by Toronto and Tommy Bringi was selected by Saskatchewan.

Hamilton also selected linebacker Jared Beeksma of the Guelph Gryphons in the fifth round (46th overall). Beeksma, a Cambridge native, ranked 10th in the country with 6.1 tackles per game in 2021.

Beeksma is a graduate of Jacob Hespeler Secondary school.
