The Kitchener Rangers selected Swedish defenceman Axel Andersson 51st overall in Thursday's CHL Import Draft.
He is listed at 5-11 and just under 180 pounds.
Andersson played last season with Djurgardens IF Jr.
He was a second round pick (57th overall) of the NHL's Boston Bruins at the draft last weekend.
“Axel is a good skater and a smart puck moving defenceman. He can also add some offence from the blue line.” Rangers General Manager, Mike McKenzie told KitchenerToday.
“He is a very good player and being picked in the 2nd round of the NHL draft obviously shows how good of a player he is.” added McKenzie.
He says they are hoping to have Andersson join them for the upcoming season, but will need to talk to his agent and the Bruins to see what their plan is first.
