It was the tenth, and final, regular season meeting between the Kitchener Rangers and Guelph Storm.
Both teams are headed into the post-season, and it was the Storm who came away with the 3-2 overtime victory Friday night at the Sleeman Centre in Guelph.
The Storm scored the opening goal in the first period, but Reid Valade netted his 30th goal of the season to tie the game 1-1.
After a scoreless second period, Carson Rehkopf scored a powerplay goal just two minutes into the third frame, giving Kitchener the 2-1 lead. Braeden Bowman tied the game 2-2 at around the 5-minute mark of the period.
The score remained 2-2 after regulation time, despite a late powerplay opportunity for the Rangers. The man-advantage carried into overtime, but Kitchener couldn't capitalize.
Guelph’s Danny Zhilkin scored the game-winner, 3-2 was the final score. Ranger's goalie, Paval Cajan, made 41 saves in the loss.
