Panthers blank Majors

Jonder Martinez threw seven shutout innings and the Kitchener Panthers stayed in the hunt for first place with a 4-0 win over the London Majors Wednesday night at Labatt Park. 

Martinez (5-2) scattered three hits and struck out nine without issuing a walk. 

The Panthers (24-10) have won seven of their last 10 and are one game back of Barrie for first in the IBL. 

Offensively, Yorbis Borroto and Mike Andrulis each had two hits and drove in a run while scoring once. Brian Burton and Mike Glinka had a hit and RBI apiece.  

RJ Fuhr, Keith Kandel, Michael Ambrose and Matt Hexter had London's hits. 

Joan Montero (4-4) took the loss, giving up three runs on seven hits over six innings. He walked one and struck out five. 

The third-place Majors dropped to 19-14 and trail Barrie by 5.5 games.
