OUA Week 7: Waterloo wins crosstown battle again; Laurier and Waterloo headed to Yates Cup playoffs

By Mark Pare

For the second time this season, the Waterloo Warriors took it to their crosstown rival.

But thanks to results around the OUA West, there's room for both the Warriors and Laurier Golden Hawks in the postseason.

The Warriors scored 25 points in the fourth quarter, capping off a 36-8 win over the Laurier Golden Hawks to finish the regular season.

Tre Ford was 17-for-27, threw for 290 yards and three touchdowns.  He was also the top rusher for either team, gaining 97 yards on the ground.

Connor Carusello went 17-for-29 for 183 yards, a touchdown and two interceptions.

Meantime, Western clinched the OUA West Division with an emphatic 66-0 rout of Windsor, pushing the Lancers to the bottom of the division at 2-4.

Western finished 5-1, while Laurier, Guelph, Waterloo and McMaster were tied at 3-3.

Through tiebreakers that even the OUA needed to do a double take on, they determined Laurier will indeed host Guelph in the opening round of the playoffs next Saturday in the second versus third matchup.

Waterloo, meantime, will go into Western next weekend as the fourth seed.
