The Kitchener Rangers preview their 16th annual Remembrance Day jersey

Sporting a ram tank on the front crest and an image of the Kitchener clock tower on the shoulders, we're getting our first look at the Kitchener Rangers special jerseys ahead of their 16th annual Remembrance Day Ceremony and Jersey Auction.

The yearly initiative helps raise funds for local miliary charities, while paying tribute to those who have served or continue to serve with the Canadian Forces.

This year's special commemorative jersey will hit the ice as the Kitchener Rangers take on the Flint Firebirds at the Aud on Nov. 5. According to the team, that 7:30 p.m. game will also feature a special ceremony and puck drop.

release from the Kitchener Rangers states that this year's commemorative jersey is based on the Kitchener-Waterloo community's support of WW2 efforts, hearkening back to June of 1940 when a local Kitchener resident donated $100 to the mayor's office to start a fund to buy a tank for the Canadian Forces.

That 'Buy-A-Tank' community campaign raised upward of $38,000 in 1940, with word of the fundraiser sparking other communities to organize similar events.

Rangers fans will have the opportunity to place bids for the limited edition jerseys through a silent auction before and during the Nov. 5 game against the Firebirds in the Subscriber's Lounge at the Aud. The team notes that bidding guidelines will be available at the auction.

Proceeds from the jersey auction will flow through the Rangers Reach initiative to support the 78th Fraser Highlanders Fort Conestoga Garrison, as well as the Kitchener-Waterloo Poppy Fund.

You can purchase tickets for the Nov. 5 match between the Kitchener Rangers and Flint Firebirds here, in-person at the Centre in The Square box office or by calling 519-578-1570 / 1-800-265-8977.
