By Mark Pare

It wasn’t meant to be for the Kitchener Rangers Saturday night.

The Saginaw Spirit scored three times in the second period, en route to the 5-4 win at The Aud to close out Day 2 of the Rangers’ preseason showcase.

Greg Meireles, Eric Guest, Nick McHugh and Jack York provided the offense for the East Avenue Blue.

Kitchener pulled the goalie with 90 seconds to go, but just couldn’t get it by Tristian Lennox.

He made 22 saves in the win, while Lucas Pfeil stopped 33 of 38 shots in the loss.

The afternoon game provided some excitement as well.

Bradley Chenier scored two consecutive goals — including the game-winner with 31.1 seconds left on the clock — to lift the North Bay Battalion to a 5-4 win over the Moncton Wildcats.

Dylan Seitz scored twice for Moncton and Charles-Antoine Lavallee made 23 saves on 28 shots and took the loss.

Christian Propp turned away 25 of 29 shots in the win for the Troops.

Day 3 will see Saginaw and Moncton battle at 11:00 a.m. and North Bay gets Kitchener at 2:00 p.m.

The final day also features a fan fest and BBQ starting at 10:00 a.m.
