Kitchener lawn bowler, plus coach heading to Commonwealth Games

By CityNews Kitchener Staff

There will be Kitchener representation at this summer's Commonwealth Games.

John Bezear was named to the Canadian team earlier this week. Bezear will compete in the pairs and fours.

Darryl Fitzgerald, who's also from Kitchener, will help coach.

“The Commonwealth Games are the biggest multi-sport event on the lawn bowls competition calendar. We are thrilled to be on our way to the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games with such a strong team of athletes,” said Anna Mees, CEO of Bowls Canada. “We had solid performances in 2018 on the Gold Coast and we are looking to build on that momentum this summer in Birmingham.”

The 10 athletes named to the team were selected based on their performance at a selection event held last month in Windsor.

The Commonwealth Games will take place from July 28 to August 8.
