Fortinet Cup Championship begins in Kitchener Thursday

Professional golf has returned to the area this week.

Deer Ridge Golf Club in Kitchener is hosting PGA Tour Canada's Fortinet Cup Championship.

Play gets underway Thursday morning, with play continuing into Sunday.

American Jake Knapp is the Fortinet Cup points leader heading into the tournament. He holds a 40 point lead over Canadian Wil Bateman and American Noah Goodwin.

The player finishing in the number one spot next week will capture player of the year honours, $25,000, plus an invitation to play in next year's RBC Canadian Open.
