Another three-in-three book ended by a pair of Rangers’ losses

The Ontario Hockey League schedule-makers were not kind to the Kitchener Rangers in October.

The Rangers wrapped up their second of three straight weekends with three games.

“Three-in-threes are tough, especially when you add travel,” said Kitchener head coach Jay McKee.

The Saginaw Spirit stopped the Blueshirts Sunday 2-1 on the back of a third period goal from Captain Damien Giroux.

“I know how hard these guys compete. I knew their hearts and minds would be into it,” said McKee.

“As a staff, we're pretty happy with the effort they left out there. It was a good hockey game. Unfortunately we came up just a little bit short.”

It's not going to get any easier. Kitchener is at home to the Midwest Division leaders, the Guelph Storm Friday.

They're on the road Saturday afternoon against the London Knights, ranked 2nd in the CHL Top 10, and cap off the weekend with a visit to the Royal City to face the Storm.

Rangers forward Nick McHugh says a lot of people can underestimate the toll the three-in-threes can take.

“It's really tough on your body,” said McHugh. “We have three of them in a row. It's going to be a grind coming up, especially next weekend.”

McHugh was reuinted this weekend with familiar faces Riley Damiani and Greg Meireles; dubbed The Run DMQ Line.

Last year in the playoffs we had a really big role shutting down the other team's top-line. This year we have more of an offensive role,” said the Ottawa area native. “If we keep playing together, I think we're going to start putting up some numbers.”
