Waterloo’s Silver Lake to get facelift

By Christine Clark

In the words of Waterloo Mayor Dave Jaworsky, the historic area of the city “will be brought back to its former glory!”

An environmental assessment of Silver Lake and Laurel Creek in Waterloo Park was endorsed by Waterloo City Council Monday night.

Right now, it currently serves as a storm water pond with surface water discharge that creates poor water quality and sediment conditions – that means we won't be swimming in the lake anytime soon, but other activities would be possible.

The $7.3 million rejuvenation of the area in the centre of the city would see water circulation and quality improved with a focus on the flooding limits of the area, natural aesthetics of the park, and cultural landscape elements.

Further details will be sent to council for future approval.

You can have your say on the plans over the next thirty days by heading to the City of Waterloo website.
