Waterloo Brewing expanding

By Aastha Shetty

Waterloo Brewing will be making a $9.6 million dollar expansion in Waterloo Region.

COO Russell Tabata says a bulk of the money will be spent locally.

“Once the expansion is done, we expect to expand our production capabilities, do more volume, bring more work and business to our local communities that will result in extra hours and employees required to do the business.”

He says the main focus of the expansion efforts is to increase the size of their warehouses in Waterloo Region.

“It allows us to integrate the offsite warehousing into our local production, as well as give us more capabilities in our production facilities to give us more business.”

Tabata says Waterloo Brewing's retail store will be more than six times bigger.

“We're going to also have a walk-in cooler that will allow people to buy cold, fresh beer directly from our retail store. Then we will expand to have a taproom tasting area that will allow people to come to our facility and enjoy all the new and innovative brands that we will be making in our small-batch brewery.”

The full project is scheduled to complete by October 2019.

The taproom and brewhouse may be ready by next summer.
