Support for nursing moms going virtual

By Christine Clark

Breastfeeding Buddies of Waterloo Region has launched a new website and virtual programs to support nursing moms struggling during this time of social isolation.

The website has daily virtual programs, weekly workshops and one on one support available.

For example, Latch and Learn is a five-week series held every Tuesday and Thursday at 10:00 a.m. where parents “learn about normal newborn behaviour and receive evidence-based breastfeeding support in a non-judgmental group session.”

75 trained volunteers are involved in the free, peer-based program to help those families in need.

In a release, Michelle Buckner, Coordinator of the Breastfeeding Buddies Program, says, “The new Breastfeeding Buddies website and online classes will allow families with babies and young children to access important resources in these unprecedented times of social distancing and isolation. With these new tools available to parents, our assistance is only a click away.”

The program is funded by the Kitchener Downtown Community Health Centre.
