Sop scores in overtime, moving Rangers closer to seventh place

By CityNews Staff

It was pretty simple Saturday, lose in Owen Sound and likely finish eighth in the Western Conference.

The Owen Sound Attack came into the game three points up on the eighth-place Kitchener Rangers.

Now, it's two. Matt Sop was the hero in overtime, and Kitchener clipped the Attack 3-2.

The Kitchener-kid, Sop, has seven goals in his last eight games. The overtime marker came off a fantastic feed from Filip Mesar, after the Rangers were able to keep the three Attack players from changing for almost three minutes.

Marco Costantini started in back-to-back days for just the second time this season.

He made 40 saves, in the win, and earned first-star.

Adrian Misaljevic and Trent Swick scored for Kitchener. It was Misaljevic's second goal, in five games, since returning to the line-up after missing 19 match-ups with an upper-body injury.

For Swick, it's his first since returning Friday after sitting out 27 games, also with an upper-body injury.

Kitchener has four games remaining – two at home, two on the road – before they begin the first round of the playoffs on the road.

First up, the Kingston Frontenacs at The Aud Sunday afternoon. The pregame begins at 1:30 p.m. on CityNews 570, with Mike Farwell and Chris Pope.
