REGION OF WATERLOO

The Region of Waterloo is hiring a Director of Reconciliation and Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) to help address systemic issues that have a long history of discrimination and negatively impacting members of marginalized communities.

“This is an incredibly important role that will help us make significant strides as a community and organization,” said Chief Administrative Officer Bruce Lauckner. “Waterloo Region is home to a community that represents a multitude of cultures, traditions and experiences from around the world. We are committed to building a region rooted in social justice, inclusive of all our diverse community members, that truly supports current and future generations.”

The Director will lead the Region’s Reconciliation and EDI unit as the team works in and alongside the community to challenge and uproot systemic barriers and further knit EDI into the Region’s identity as an organization.

Once in place, top priorities for the Region’s action-oriented leader include:

  • Continue developing and implementing action plans to work towards reconciliation and a more equitable Region, in partnership with local municipalities and Indigenous communities;
  • Work alongside other senior leaders and departments within the Region to further diversify and advance workplace culture; and
  • Working with racialized and marginalized communities who face discrimination and exclusion to remove  systemic barriers that continue to impact and impede access to Regional services for all members of the community

To ensure the list of applicants reflects Canada’s diverse population, the Region partnered with BIPOC Executive Search, a firm that works with organizations to improve inclusivity.
