Region getting $2.2M, free LRT train from Bombardier

By Mark Pare

Some compensation is headed to Waterloo Region from Bombardier.

Regional Council has voted to resolve all contractual claims with the transportation giant, after costs were incurred because of delays in Bombardier delivering light-rail trains to our region, ahead of the launch of ION service.

The region will be getting $2.2-million dollars in liquidated damages, as well as an LRT train at no cost.

“This will bring the number of permanent vehicles in Waterloo Region to 15,” regional staff say, “The additional vehicle to the ION fleet will provide additional capacity and reliability to passengers.”
