Power restored in Wilmot, Wellesley as strong winds rip across region (update)

By CityNews Kitchener Staff

A pair of power outages were reported in local townships on Wednesday afternoon as a special weather statement remained in effect for strong wind gusts.

The largest outage was impacting 582 customers; mostly in Wilmot, but some in Wellesley as well.

That outage stretched from south of Gerber Road to south of Erbs Road, and from Wilmot Easthope Road to Notre Dame Drive.

The cause was initially listed as being 'tree contact' but it was later updated to say 'equipment failure'; power was restored as of 4:30 p.m.

Equipment failure was also being blamed for another outage in the New Hamburg area, with 119 customers affected. The majority of power was restored to that area as of 5 p.m.
