Police not looking for other suspects in connection with murder of Helen Schaller

By Blair Adams

Waterloo Regional Police say they're not looking for any additional suspects in connection with the murder of Cambridge's Helen Schaller.

Police also believe Schaller and the suspect were involved in altercation in a parking lot, prior to her being shot multiple times.

That happened the afternoon of April 17 in the area of King Street East, near Church Street North and Westminster Drive North.

Schaller, 58, was rushed to hospital where she was later pronounced dead.

The suspect in her murder died on Sunday.

There's now a Special Investigations Unit probe into his death.

The 39-year-old Cambridge man, who has yet to be named, was found in a wooded area off Franklin Boulevard on Saturday morning, with what police believe to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

That was shortly after police called in their Emergency Response Team to conduct a high-risk takedown.

The SIU, which investigates reports involving police where there has been death, serious injury or allegations of sexual assault, has assigned three investigators and two forensic investigators to this incident.

Anyone with information is asked to call the SIU at 1-800-787-8529.

They also urge anyone who may have any video evidence related to this incident to upload that video through the SIU website.
