Damage has been pegged at almost $500,000 following a barn fire on Roseville Road in North Dumfries on Tuesday afternoon.

North Dumfries Fire Chief, Robert Shantz tells 570 NEWS they had a crew there overnight dealing with any flare ups.

Shantz says it was continuing to smolder due to the large amount of hay and how compressed the hay was in the barn.

The cause of the fire has still not been determined, but they do know it started in the upper floor where the hay was stored.

Shantz adds an excavator was brought in Wednesday afternoon to start taking the hay away and remove the tin, so they can get to the scene of the fire.

The fire broke out at around 5 p.m. on Tuesday.
