Kitchener-Waterloo, Ontario - Soroptimist, a global women’s organization, chartered a new club in Kitchener-Waterloo on February 24th. The volunteer club’s mission is to improve the lives of women and teenage girls facing challenges through programs leading to social and economic empowerment.

"Many women and girls in our growing and diverse community need assistance in overcoming educational, economic and social obstacles," says Sarah Tatsis, president of the new club. "We're excited to bring Soroptimist programs to KW to help these women and girls unlock their potential and live their dreams."

"I commend your charter celebration today and your mandate to be instrumental with support and mentorship for KW women and girls," says Karen Redman, Chair of Waterloo Region. "With all of your undertakings, you are there to give women a hand and realize their dreams."

The program’s goal is to improve the women’s job prospects to increase their economic stability and serve as positive role models for their children and community. Additional projects target domestic abuse, dating violence, teenage pregnancy, women’s health initiatives or other community-based initiatives for women and girls. In total, more than 30,000 women in the Americas have received educational grants to enable them to pursue their dreams.
