New civic gathering space approved for Uptown Waterloo

By CityNews Kitchener Staff

Waterloo city councillors have put the final stamp of approval on a $2.2 million deal to create a new civic gathering space in Uptown Waterloo.

The land at 17 William Street, was purchased from Waterloo North Hydro and will support the city's expansion of the original town square at King and William.

That expansion has always planned for a new “civic green” open space.

Councillors also approved the creation of a new multi-purpose loop around the Laurel Creek Conservation Area which will cost just over $100,000.

That will be installed around Beaver Creek Road, Conservation Drive, Westmount Road, Bearinger Road and Laurelwood Drive.
