By Germain Ma

Reaction is coming in from local school boards and Waterloo's mayor after another mass shooting in the United States.

19 children and two adults are dead after a gunman went from classroom to classroom at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas on Tuesday.

It's the deadliest school shooting since 20 children and six adults were killed at Sandy Hook Elementary in Connecticut, a decade ago.

“Schools should ALWAYS be safe… for all of us. To the community that's lost their loved ones & to all grieving- my heart is with you,” said Waterloo Region District School Board Director of Education, jeewan chanicka in tweet.

He shared his emotion with broken heart emojis and asked that anyone affected “get help.”

The WRDSB shared it is “deeply saddened” by the news.

It tweeted, “Our thoughts are with the grieving families, the injured, and all those traumatised by this tragedy.”

The Waterloo Catholic District School Board spoke out, posting the message that “violence has no place in schools at any time, for any reason.”

In a Twitter post, the board shared its entire community “stands in solidarity.”

“Thoughts & prayers aren't enough any more. We must all work for change,” it said.

Waterloo Mayor Dave Jaworsky said that the city's Council for a Day contest for students is an annual highlight for him.

“Children have so much promise, and good ideas… To hear of the school shooting is heartbreaking for all of us,” he said.
