Longtime UW professor passes away suddenly

By Erin Anderson

A sad day for family, friends, and staff at UW – as the man behind the University's Weather Station has died.

In a post to the Station's website, it says longtime professor Eric 'Ric' Soulis passed away suddenly on June 21 after a brief illness.

The current coordinator says – “It was through his vision and guidance that the idea for the weather station was born and implemented.”

Soulis spent over three decades teaching at UW, and is fondly remembered by students.

His obituary reads, “His door was always open, as were his ears and heart.”

Friends and family of Soulis gathered at Emmanuel United Church in Waterloo earlier this afternoon for a service and reception.
