Local services affected by the internet, wireless outage

Various local services, organizations, and schools are reporting impacts of an ongoing internet and wireless outage. 

Credit and debit payments also appear to be down. 

Here's a list of what's been shared Friday on social media:

MUNICIPAL SERVICES

-Township of North Dumfries' Municipal Office operations are affected because staff don't have access to email or the township's website. Residents needing to contact staff are asked to call 519-632-8800.

-City of Kitchener phone lines to its contact centre and Kitchener Utilities dispatch centre are down. It's also put in place service chances. This includes accepting cash or cheque payments only for services like marriage and business licences. Planning/development questions or zoning inquiries are not available.

-Kitchener public library locations are open, but currently have no Internet or Wi-Fi. 

-City of Waterloo is experiencing issues with phone lines and online services.

-City of Cambridge is asking residents who need to contact Service Cambridge to use a landline or cell outside the Rogers service. Debit and credit payments are also unavailable. 

-Region of Waterloo said its online services are impacted by “technical difficulties with an internet service provider.”

-Regional waste transfer stations are unable to accept debit/credit cards.

HEALTHCARE

-Canadian Mental Health Association Waterloo Wellington services and Here 24/7 are operating, but it warns there may be delays

SCHOOLS

-KidsAbility sites are closed.

-Wilfrid Laurier University said the outage is impacting “many customers' home connections, cellular, and internet access to our location at 120 Duke Street.”

– University of Waterloo said internet disruptions are “impacting many services across campus – including Interac and credit payment options. Eduroam is not impacted.”

-Waterloo Region District School Board said teachers are providing asynchronous work for summer students and is cancelling scheduled asessements for secondary students on Friday.

TRANSPORTATION

-GO Transit said fares cannot be purchased using debit and credit and E-tickets may be unavailable. But, its contact centre and transit safety dispatch lines are fully functional

-Grand River Transit real-time departure information is not available. Trip planning tools are providing scheduled times

HYDRO

-Waterloo North Hydro's interactive outage map is unavailable and customers experiencing outages are asked to call 519-886-5090. The My Account portal may be intermittently unavailable.

-KW Hydro's customer care team is unable to provide account information. Customers experiencing a power emergency are asked to call 519-745-4771.

-Grandbridge Energy's Outage Map is not updating and customers are asked to call the Outage Info Line 1-833-769-3701 to report outages.

EMERGENCY SERVICES

-WRPS said some residents could experience issues connecting with 9-1-1. It's asking the community to try again, call from a landline, or use a phone with another service provider.

-Guelph Police Service is asking residents not to call 9-1-1 to report outages and to treat non-functioning traffic lights as four-way stops.

BUSINESSES

-Binegemans is open but unable to take debit payments.
