Due to the pandemic, 2021 will mark the second year in a row the Empty Bowls fundraiser will happen virtually.

Empty Bowls, in its 12th year, raises funds for the Food Bank of Waterloo Region.

Wilfrid Laurier University will host this year — it will take place on Zoom from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Thursday, June 3. Registration opens on May 3. The first 125 registrants will be eligible to receive a handmade bowl created by a member of the Waterloo Potters’ Workshop.

The event will also include a silent auction.

Last year, over $10,000 was raised for the food bank. Given the significant need in the community due to the pandemic, this year organizers are hoping to raise $15,000.
