Langdon thankful for visit to Flint to face Firebirds

By CityNews Kitchener Staff

It was exactly what the Kitchener Rangers needed.

After a tough game Tuesday against the Sarnia Sting, the Blueshirts travelled to Flint to face the last-place Firebirds.

Greg Meireles led the way offensively with four points and the Rangers flipped the Firebirds 7-2 on the eve of American Thanksgiving.

It's not every day a four-point game for a former first-round pick gets overshadowed. But, Wednesday wasn't any other game.

Kitchener's 2018 second-rounder Isaac Langdon scored his first Ontario Hockey League goal.

“I couldn't believe it. It's an unbelievable feeling to get my first goal in this league. It took a while,” said the Belleville native, after his 25th game in the league.

“I'm proud of him,” said Meireles. “I know it's tough if you haven't scored in a while. He popped it tonight and I think he'll have many more this season.”

“Isaac has been really good with the details of the game,” said Kitchener head coach Jay McKee. “As a 16-year-old centreman, he's been a guy I have no fear putting out against any line the opposition throws at us.”

“A couple good passing plays by [Joe] Garreffa and [Nick] McHugh to get it over to me,” said Langdon, who knows what he'll likely do with the puck. “Keep it in my room probably. Keep it forever.”

“The guys in the room, are really excited. When you see that, you know he's a great kid.,” added his head coach.

Langdon offered the secondary scoring to the Blueshirts' big dogs.

On top of Meireles' big game, linemates Rickard Hugg had two points and Jonathan Yantsis continued his insanely torrid pace with his 20th goal of the season.

Joseph Garreffa and Nick McHugh each added three points in the win, while Lucas Pfeil fended off 36 of Flint's 38 shots to pick up the win in goal.

Kitchener will play five of their next six games at home. It starts Friday when they host the Erie Otters.
