Kitchener school still set to open despite construction delays

By Jeff Pickel

The first day of school is especially exciting for about 500 kids who will be the first to walk through the doors of Janet Metcalfe Public School in Kitchener.

The K-7 school in Kitchener's Huron Park area is opening today despite some construction delays.

According to school Principal Janet Hale, the classrooms are ready to go, but a few areas still need work.

“The gym won't be available right off the bat, and neither will the library.  But we definitely have work arounds for both of those things,” she said, “The teachers are busy in their classrooms, getting them all ready for the students.”

The school has been keeping parents up to date with construction updates several times a week for the last month.

According to the school board update, when teachers first toured the facility last week they had to wear hard hats.

There is no exact date for when all construction will be finished.
