It's not a 'Canadian winter' without skating, and the City of Kitchener is looking for volunteers to help build and maintain outdoor rinks.

The city is recruiting individuals who can conduct regular snow removal and inspections to keep neighbourhood outdoor ice rinks open.

The commitment is three to six hours a week from December to March, depending on weather conditions.

Anyone can apply but there are some requirements, like living near one of the outdoor rinks and being able to perform physical tasks including lifting and bending. Volunteers may also be needed early in the morning or late at night, so flexibility in availability is pertinent.

Community members under the age of 18 can also apply but permission is required from a parent or guardian. Additionally, those under the age of 14 would require parental or guardian supervision when performing volunteer duties.

You can see the volunteer application by clicking here or call the city at 519-741-2200 ext. 7564 for more information.
