A Kitchener man has been found not criminally responsible for his wife's murder and a house explosion in August of 2018.

Udo Haan had been charged with first-degree murder and arson-related offences stemming from the incident almost five years ago.

Haan was sent to hospital after the blast that levelled his home and a woman's body was discovered in the backyard, who was later identified as his wife Edra Haan.

An autopsy then led to her death being ruled a homicide and charges were laid against Udo.

His lawyer confirmed to CityNews 570 on Thursday afternoon that Udo Haan was found not criminally responsible on account of a mental disorder. He was remanded in custody pending his appearance before the Ontario Review Board.
