Hospitals working together to meet ‘world-wide’ epidural shortage

By Luke Schulz

Aiming to meet a supposed world-wide shortage of epidural supplies, our region's hospitals have announced their intentions to work together to meet the needs of patient care both locally and across the province

Issuing a joint release on Friday, the region's hospitals indicated that they are aware of the shortage impacting products used to support patients during childbirth, as they said that local hospitals currently still have supply in stock – adding that they'll be working with partners across the province to “equitably conserve and share resources” while also planning for “next steps.”

“At this time, we are investigating the procurement of substitute options, should they be needed and will share more information and resources as plans progress.” reads the release from our local hospitals.

Those with questions about the current situation are encouraged to speak with their health care providers and care teams, while local hospitals are expected to provide any necessary updates through their websites.
