Heartland Farm Mutual confirms possible data breach

A Waterloo insurance specialist has been the victim of a possible data breach.

Louis Derocher, President and CEO, Heartland Farm Mutual confirmed the 'cyber-security incident' to 570 NEWS on Monday.

In an email statement, Derocher said an investigation revealed an employee's email was targeted, and "may have exposed a small number of individuals' personal information".

However, the company is stressing that it's not aware of any misuse of the information, and the affected customers have been notified.

Heartland wants to ensure its clients, protecting their personal information is a top priority for the insurance company.

It says, a number of steps were taken immediately upon learning of the incident to block unauthorized access and secure the information.

The company has offered to cover the cost of credit monitoring for 12 months for anyone impacted.
