If you're looking to take a Grand River Transit bus, that passes through the university district of Waterloo, plan some extra time for your commute.
GRT is addressing complaints of late buses over the past few weeks, as thousands of university students returned to the region.
The service notes, ridership has skyrocketed over the past few weeks — even higher than it was pre-pandemic.
That combined with increased vehicular traffic has led to a number of late buses.
The service hopes to address the issue when it launches its winter service in January.
Why are customers seeing delays on a number of bus routes this fall?
The root of the problem is actually a good thing: ridership has rebounded from the impacts of the pandemic. Ridership on routes around the universities, in particular, is even higher than it was in 2019.
