A former staff member at Wilfrid Laurier University is giving back to the university.
Lois Macdonald and her husband Charles have donated $500,000 to the Faculty of Music to establish a student bursary.
The Lois and Charles Macdonald Bursary will support full-time Faculty of Music undergraduate students in years two, three or four, as well as full-time graduate students who meet all academic program requirements and demonstrate financial need.
As a young person, Lois Macdonald, an accomplished pianist and piano teacher, was not able to afford a music education and she is looking to change that with this bursary.
She worked for many years as secretary to the dean of the (former) Faculty of Romance and Languages.
“This award was created from a deep love of music, and a desire that the gift of music be widely shared,” Macdonald shared in a news release.
“I want the students of tomorrow to have more opportunity than I did. But the award also recognizes my deep love of Laurier, and how much I enjoyed working in the Department of Romance and Languages.”
