New competitive video game camps are being brought to Waterloo Region as a result of the partnership between Sports Camp Canada and Subnation Media.

These virtual camps are geared toward providing top tier instruction to improve gaming ability and establish important life skills beyond the game for campers between the ages of 12 and 19.

The three-day camps will be held between March 13-21, in association with the esports programs at Conestoga College, the University of Waterloo, and Wilfrid Laurier University, with in-person camps being considered later in 2021.

Director of Sport Hosting at Explore Waterloo Region, Allister Scorgie said in a release they are excited to launch these esports camps this spring, and look forward to offering in-person options for visiting campers across Canada when it is safe to do so.

The three featured games at the esports camps include Rocket League, League of Legends and Overwatch. Topics like tactics and in-game mechanics will be covered and explained to improve participants' performance.

"Our partnership with Sports Camp Canada comes at the perfect time as we meet this growing demand for access to esports coaching for aspiring gamers, and further develop a healthy and sustainable esports ecosystem for such an innovative host market and destination," said Ed Tomasi, Chief Managing Director and Co-Founder of Subnation Media in a release.
