Waterloo-based Equitable Life of Canada has announced the creation of an endowment at Wilfrid Laurier University, to honour the retirement of Equitable Life CEO and President, Ron Beettam.

The endowment will support students in the Lazaridis School of Business and Economics.

"At Equitable Life of Canada, we believe in giving back to the communities where we live and work," Doug Alexander, Chair of the Board of Directors for Equitable Life of Canada, explained in a news release. "This gift recognizes our ongoing commitment to producing the next generation of business leaders who understand the power of ethical business to make a positive impact."

The Ron Beettam Equitable Life Award will be eligible to any undergraduate student in the Honours Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) program at the university who meets all academic program requirements, demonstrates involvement in the community through volunteer work, and establishes financial need.

Beettam plans to retire in June.
