Enjoy a treat during K-W Humane Society fundraiser

The biggest and sweetest event for the Humane Society is back in the region.

The Kitchener-Waterloo and Stratford-Perth locations will host Bake for the Animals from February 24 to March 1.

To participate, residents can register to set up an online bakery page, selling treats to support the animals in the shelter.

Calla James is the senior manager of marketing and communications for The Humane Society of Kitchener-Waterloo & Stratford-Perth.

She says what began as a one-day cupcake sale has turned into a week long event with multiple goodies for both people and animals.

“We had such an inquiry about other things, 'Can I do cakes? Can I do doughnuts? Can I do pies?' ” said James.

“We have so many incredible bakers in the area that people did expand into other things. Pup-cakes that come in are incredibly decorated and well-made that our animals enjoy.”

According to James, each person who registers for the event receives access to downloadable party materials online and are mailed a host kit.

Groups or businesses can also participate during the week by planning their own bake sale, apply to be a sponsor, or make a donation.

With many ways to help out this year, Spencer says they are looking to surpass their fundraising goals of $46,000 for Kitchener-Waterloo and $10,000 for Stratford-Perth.

“It's a great online opportunity for people to contribute to,” said James about Bake for the Animals, “We're hoping to beat those (goals) this year to help more animals that come through our doors.”
