The Elmira Maple Syrup Festival has announced they will be donating $35,000 to support community programming.

In a release from the festival, it says the money will go towards 18 local initiatives, agencies and organizations.

Funds from the donation will be distributed next month. According to the release, another announcement on which programs will receive funding, will follow.

The announcement comes after the festival was cancelled back in March due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The release says the Elmira Maple Syrup Festival committee is 'delighted to deliver on its 56-year-old commitment of supporting the community that so generously supports us.'

Since starting 60 years ago, the Elmira Maple Syrup festival has given over $1.7 million for local organizations.
