A local business has made a sizeable donation to small businesses across the community.

Supplier of custom manufacturing equipment Eclipse Automation has made a donation of 1.5 million surgical grade masks to support small businesses in Waterloo Region.

Cartons of those Cambridge-made OMNIA Level 3 masks will be made available through the Business & Economic Support Team of Waterloo or BESTWR to small business owners free of charge.

In a release sent to 570 NEWS, Eclipse Automation CEO Steve Mai explains: "Out of respect for the hardship our local small businesses have been through during the pandemic and recognizing the toll it takes on our community, Eclipse is pleased to do what we can to lighten the load just a little bit."

"The team at Eclipse hope that our Level 3 surgical-grade procedure masks will provide greater peace of mind within the community, and support a path to economic stability by helping to avoid future lockdowns."

That supply of masks has now been delivered to a number of regional sites for safe, free distribution by BESTWR in the coming days, as they begin ramping up to safely open their doors again.

Also offering his perspective on the sizeable donation to our local business community was Tony LaMantia, President & CEO of Waterloo EDC, who said the initiative has "animated" BESTWR's "get-it-done reputation", adding that Eclipse Automation is "well on track" to becoming a strong brand ambassador for the region.

The Cambridge-based company made their pandemic pivot in the spring of last year, retooling operations to meet domestic need for medical grade PPE here in the region and across Canada - manufacturing N95 respirators and masks to create a safe, sustainable supply.

The Greater Kitchener-Waterloo Chamber of Commerce and Cambridge Chamber of Commerce COVID-19 resource page will have details on where small business can go to receive the masks in the near future. In addition, the economic development departments of Kitchener, Waterloo and Cambridge will have details regarding their central pick-up locations and logistics, as will our four Townships.
