Disney series Witch Mountain filming in Cambridge this week

By CambridgeToday Staff

The crew behind the Disney+ pilot for a new series based on the popular '70s movie Escape to Witch Mountain is headed to Cambridge this week.

The INVEST Cambridge team says it's pleased to be welcoming the film crew to the west Galt streets of Brant Road North, Wentworth Avenue and Aberdeen Road North.

Witch Mountain will be shooting on these streets on Friday, Nov. 25 and Monday, Nov. 28 with setup beginning Nov. 24.

The Disney Insider reports that the tv series is based on the 1968 science fiction novel Escape to Witch Mountain by Alexander Key, and follows teenage orphans Tony and Tia, who have paranormal abilities.

The 1975 film was followed by the sequels Return to Witch Mountain and Beyond Witch Mountain. A remake was released in 1995 and was followed by 2009's Race to Witch Mountain, which starred Dwayne Johnson.

The new series is being directed by August Frizzell.

Filming in Cambridge will cause intermittent traffic closures on Brant Road North and Wentworth Avenue between 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

The area that will be affected begins on Brant Road North and Blenheim Road and ends at the Brant Road North and Salisbury Avenue Intersection.

The intermittent closure on Wentworth Avenue will begin at the Intersection of Lansdowne Road North and Wentworth Avenue and will continue to Victoria Park.

The city says road closures will occur for three to five minutes at a time and will be performed by Waterloo Regional Police Services at the film crew's request.

There will be breaks during rush hour periods of traffic.

Drone Filming will take place over Brant Road North and will be accompanied by a Waterloo Region Police Services Paid Duty Officer.

The crew will park along affected roads and in Soper Park.
