Postal workers in Kitchener part of rotating strike for second time

By CityNews Kitchener Staff

Canada Post workers have taken their rotating strikes to Kitchener once again.

The Canadian Union of Postal Workers went on strike in the region back on November 2nd and have been rotating throughout other municipalities since.

The strike started as of 7:30 a.m this morning, so you can expect delays to service in the region.

CUPW also said the Scarborough Don Mills Facility is on strike in the Toronto area.

In addition, pickets have been set up in Edmonton, Alberta and Kelowna British Columbia Monday, after rejecting the Crown Corporation's latest offer on the weekend, tabling a counter-offer and then asking that a federal mediator be appointed.

A spokeswoman for Labour Minister Patty Hajdu wouldn't say whether Ottawa would offer another mediator, but indicated it's good that both sides are committed to finding a solution to the nearly year-old labour dispute and month-old job action.

The strikes have created a huge backlog of undelivered mail, prompting the Retail Council of Canada to ask Ottawa to legislate an end to the walkouts ahead of the busy Christmas shopping season.
