There's extensive damage and two people are displaced after a townhouse fire in a Kitchener neighbourhood on Tuesday afternoon.

The fire happened just before 3:30 p.m. on Holborn Drive between River Road and Old Chicopee Drive.

Kitchener Fire Platoon Chief Carlin Riley said two tenants were inside the home.

“There are no injuries, the fire is not suspicious and tenants will be displaced. There was two tenants in the unit at the time and they escaped safely. Their smoke alarms were working, thankfully.”

A neighbour of the townhouse also described what he saw.

“I was inside watching TV, and I heard a bunch of sirens. I came outside and seen a bunch of smoke, It was pitch black. Then I heard a boom, windows bang out and there's a massive fire going on.”

Officials have yet to provide a report with a damage estimate and the cause of the fire.
