City of Kitchener, utility workers hashing out collective agreement

By Maddie Demarte

The City of Kitchener and the union representing Kitchener Utilities' gas and water employees are working toward a collective agreement.

A spokesperson for the city says the two groups have been meeting for some time “with the goal of reaching a mutually acceptable renewal collective agreement.”

A conciliation officer is assisting both parties to come to an agreement.

The city says it's committed to the bargaining process, and remains hopeful that an agreement can be reached during upcoming collective bargaining sessions.

CityNews 570 has reached out to IBEW 636, the union representing the utility workers, for comment.
