With the second wave here, many are wondering about the pending shortages of PPE.

But at least one local company has been preparing for it in advance.

On top of processing 1.5 million Canadian Shield face shields a week in Waterloo Region, Inksmith has been stockpiling them just in case.

Jeremy Hedges, the CEO of The Canadian Shield, said when it comes to PPE shortages, they've been working really hard to make sure that isn't the case.

"We've radically expanded our surgical masks manufacturing capacity. We've added several automation lines and we have more coming in the weeks ahead," he said.

"I think we're in a really good position in that our doctors and front-line nurses have nothing to fear."

Hedges added they've invested a lot into growing their production capacity and growing to three million masks a day --- in addition to their face shields --- all to make sure Canadians are protected.

"That's going to mean we're taking care of Canadians," he said, "But we can also start exporting to countries around the world as well."
